Homeschool Field Trip #7

Yesterday, Lindsey (my homeschool tutor) took me to a Civil War Weekend reenactment at Liendo Plantation near Navasoto, Tx. When we got there we scouted the place a bit but after a while, Lindsey got tired of pushing me in my manual wheelchair and sat by some girls. They were talking about how some women dressed up like men so that they would get called to the battlefield but if they did get caught, men would kill them. Anyway at two o clock, the civil war started! Their wasn't any ammunition used in the battle but their was still gunpowder. The soldiers still had to be careful not to aim and shoot directly at an another soldier because the gunpowder might rocket out into someone's face. I don't know how many times I startled during the battle but it was loud, especially the cannons. It was cool to see all the air rings sometimes when the guns and cannons shot. Honestly, I don't know who won in that battle because I was confused about who was who. There was a huge plantation mansion and back in the day, they had over 300 slaves. I didn't get to go in because of my wheelchair but I know it was also one of the earliest cotton plantations. I did learn that there was a lot of yellow fever going around at that time and it was really cool to see everyone dressed like they would in that time period. The silverware they used was shaped completely different. I kinda liked this old gun they had in the souvenir shop but I guess I'm too old to play with that kinda stuff now so I didn't get it. Overall, I enjoyed the battle!

Two Day Power Soccer Clinic

Recently we had a two day clinic with a professional power soccer coach and his son who is a power soccer player from Indiana. The coach had all of us doing lots of new drills and taught us how to pass the ball more often, how to get into new positions and formations and showed us some spin kick tricks.  He kept reminding us not to be two on one (which causes a lot of penalties) and to keep the v formation. The second day was spent putting all the drills into action. I learned so much and I think it helped me ALOT! In fact, since the clinic I have already scored 4 goals.

Metal and Muscle

Last week was the all day Metal and Muscle Expo and our team played against the San Antonio strap team. This year, it was much easier to get a point against team 1 of San Antonio which is also an easier team to beat then team 2. The first game my coach was relying on me to do well so l got aggressive  but, sometimes a little too aggressive  because I got two penalties. The final score in that game was 3:3 (a tie) and we had over time too but it was only for three minutes instead of twenty minutes. The second game was challenging because we played against the harder team (team 2). They dominated our team. The score was like 1:6 and I think that's much better than last year. The last game we played against Team 1 again and this time our team won! The score was 3:2 and the cool thing is that I scored two back to back goals in that game. The main problem that was going on in all three games is that my chair is too slow. Especially when I get a break away and l can't catch up to the ball! What l want is a real power soccer power chair, like San Antonio has. You have to have a huge grant to get it, I think they are close to $9,000. Our team has only one player that has an official power soccer chair and their team has 4 or so and then they also have power chairs for adults which are faster as well. So we really don't have much of a chance against them when it comes to speed.

Happy Halloween

This year I dressed up like a person who had a car accident and is in horrible shape. My mom purchased some fake tattoos and blood at the Halloween store for my face. My dad on the other hand,  wanted to put the casts from the tendon lengthening surgery on me. When it was all done, I looked like a broke down person. Caleryn dressed up as Cinderella and I have to admit that she was pretty cute with the costume on. The only problem about trick or treating with my dad is that he isn't really a fan of Halloween and doesn't go very far. Which is pretty astonishing for a candy hogg. What we should've done this year is dress up Boots as, "Dog the Bounty Hunter" now that would be hilarious! Maybe we'll do that next year.
